Have you ever wanted to catch a concert, see a Jays game, or watch the Leafs play – and still make it back home to Kingston the same night? Right now, that’s nearly impossible by train.
There’s been a lot of conversation lately about the future of train travel in our region, especially the importance of protecting Kingston’s current rail service. Recently, VIA Rail proposed – and then paused – a pilot project that would skip several stops, including Kingston, to run non-stop trains between Toronto and Montreal. Since that announcement, I’ve joined other mayors and MPs across Eastern Ontario to push back against any cuts in service.
But we can’t just protect the status quo – we need better, more reliable train options. One of the biggest things I hear about is the lack of a late-night train from Toronto to Kingston. Whether you’re heading to the city for dinner, a show, or a late meeting, coming back by train isn’t possible.
That’s why we’re partnering with other communities along the corridor – and with Abacus Data -to launch a short survey to gauge the level of interest of residents. The survey takes just a few minutes, and you can find the link in this post. The more responses we get, the stronger our case.
If you’ve ever wanted better train options – this is your chance to be heard. By working together, we can take a solid step toward improving the rail service here in Kingston.
