A New and Improved Downtown Transfer Point for Kingston Transit

In order to make transit a more attractive option for getting around the city, we’ve made some big investments over the last few years! Our transit system has experienced significant ridership growth thanks to these investments, including several new express bus routes and improvements to other local bus routes. However, making transit a more attractive option requires more than buses, it requires better transfer points between routes to enhance the overall experience.

The Downtown Transfer Point located at the corner of the Brock and Bagot streets is the main transit facility for the downtown core with more than 600,000 annual transit users and service from 12 routes including all Express routes – making it a key priority for further investment.

This week City Council approved a plan to move forward with a number of improvements to the existing Downtown Transfer Point including accessibility enhancements. This new and improved transfer area will have better sidewalks, more shelters and benches and an overall more attractive and modern look that fits with council’s vision of a smart and livable 21st century city. Here are a couple of pictures to give a sense of what the new downtown transfer point will look like. The work is expected to be completed in 2017.

These improvements along with our move towards more residential development in the downtown and overall enhanced transit services are vital and well-timed investments for Kingston.
